CRPH Partner Releases Findings on Premature Mortality Attributable to COVID-19
The C-MOR project is an international research project led by the University of Nicosia Medical School with the purpose of creating a reference dataset about COVID-19 mortality. The main goals are to create open access data, global coverage, and the creation of a public platform for result sharing. The findings of the project help decision-makers understand the implications of the virus and how to respond to the pandemic.
The Center for Rural and Primary Healthcare (CRPH) has partnered with C-MOR to better understand the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic. A recently published study, Premature mortality attributable to COVID-19: potential years of life lost in 17 countries around the world, January–August 2020 investigates the Potential Years of Life Lost (PYLL) in 17 countries and territories across the world. Qian Huang, a CRPH graduate student, was a co-author on the publication. The CMOR research consortium collected age and sex specific COVID-19 death numbers from primary national sources. The results of this study demonstrate how PYLL can be used to understand the impact of COVID-19 among various groups as well as how to protect people through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
