The primary care workforce across South Carolina is inadequate, especially in rural areas. The SC Center for Rural and Primary Healthcare support programs that improve the diversity and distribution of South Carolina’s rural health workforce.

To grow the number of family medicine doctors practicing in rural areas of SC, CRPH partners with the Prisma Heath –Midlands Family Medicine Residence Program to place a resident physician at the Martin Primary Health Care Center

Supports academic operations, recruiting and program development for the Prisma Health Tuomey Family Medicine Residency Program.

A two-year program in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health. The curriculum combines clinical and academic training with practicum experiences in a variety of public health and preventive medicine settings.

Focuses on shaping pharmacy graduate students to become future providers in rural areas around South Carolina by fostering greater knowledge of rural skill sets and interest in working in rural communities.

Tandem Health-University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy postgraduate year 1 (PGY1) outpatient pharmacy residency program aims to develop pharmacist leaders who add value and implement services to improve the health of patients within the community, emphasizing those in rural and underserved settings.

Works with partners to identify and prepare health professions students through interprofessional training opportunities to become “boots on the ground” primary care providers, especially in rural and underserved communities.
